Transition Specialist, Region 12 Education Service Center

Sharron has been in the field of special education for 19 years, from elementary through the
high school level. Sharron was also involved in researching the use of art therapy as a
method of improving self-concept in elementary age children with disabilities and was the
recipient of the "Apple" award which provided funding for this project.

Sharron was co-creator of the "Big Blue D.R.E.A.M.S." (Developing Real Employment and
Management Skills) program while working for Temple Independent School District. She is
currently working to develop this program into a thriving business for individuals with
disabilities.

Grandparents As Parents Program Support Group in Waco

The Methodist Children’s Home in Waco provides support for grandparents raising their
grandchildren through its Grandparents As Parents Program.
GAPP offers a variety of services, including education, case management, referral, parent
education, and a support group. The support group meets on the second Thursday of each
month at 6:00 pm on the campus of Methodist Children’s Home in Waco.

Arc of McLennan County Teen & Young Adults Group

The Arc of McLennan County has organized a group for individuals with intellectual and
developmental disabilities who are in high school or have recently transitioned out of school
There is no fee to enroll or apply for the program, but application is mandatory, to ensure that
sufficient staff resources to meet the needs of all participants is available. In some instances,
The Arc may determine that they are unable to provide the level of care a teen or young adult
requires and thus will be unable to accept that person into the program. For additional

Parent 2 Parent Support Group in Temple

A support group for parents of children with special needs meets on the 2nd Thursday of the
month at 6 pm, at Canyon Creek Church of Christ, on South 31st Street in Temple.

The Exceptional Family Member Program at Ft Hood offers support groups for Mental Health,
month.
Workshops for children ages 5 and up are also offered concurrently. The groups meet at the
Lane Volunteer Center, Building 16005 at the corner of T.J. Mills Boulevard and Old Ironsides
Avenue. Meetings and workshops are open to everyone.

Asperger's Support Group in Temple & Killeen

The group meets meet generally on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at various locations in Temple
and Killeen. Adults and teens with Aspergers, PDD or other issues are welcome to attend along
with their families.

Caregivers Ladder Support Group in Temple

Caregivers Ladder is a support group for parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities,
whose mission is to empower caregivers and help them to ensure that individuals with
disabilities are given an opportunity at a quality life.

A support group for families with children with autism, aspergers and special needs in the
