The Arc of
McLennan County
provides care and
support for persons
and the families
affected by autism,
mental retardation and
developmental
disabilities.
Each summer the Arc
offers an 8-week day
camp for children with
disabilities, including
a unique and
specialized curriculum
for children with
autism.
Many parents would
not be able to
continue working
during the summer if it
were not for the Arc
Summer Day Camp.
The Arc camp enables
parents to know that
quality care is being
provided for their
children during the
summer months. For
more information,
visit their website.
The Baylor Autism
Resource Center
helps fill a critical gap
in resources for this
region. It first opened
to the community on
January 28th, 2008,
after being awarded a
Baylor / Waco
Foundation grant.
The center is utilized
by parents, caregivers,
educators, trainers,
professionals in the
field and Baylor
students. It will ensure
that resources,
trainings, workshops,
coordination of
available services and
a team approach is
available to the
community.
BARC also offers a
Summer Day Camp.

to build interpersonal
and social skills for
youth with ASD,
developing a Central
Texas Resource
Services Handbook
and Website, and
establishing a lending
library with books,
sensory integration
materials and motor
lab equipment for
checkout.
With continued
support from the
community, the center
will expand services
and develop new
projects related to
therapy and research
in the field.

3rd Annual Waco Walk for Autism 9 am Saturday, May 1st, 2010 Fountain Mall Baylor University, Waco, Texas
|
Heart of Texas Autism Network
The Third Annual Waco Walk for Autism and its
associated fundraisers has raised over $15,000,
according to HOTAN Registration Coordinator
Vicki Nazzario.
This includes more than $7,000 in registration fees,
$8,000 in donations, $145 from the Panda Express
fundraiser, and $45 from the Books-A-Million
fundraiser. This does not include funds raised at
the month-long fundraiser at the IHOP restaurant
at I-35 and New Road in Waco, which have not yet
been tallied.
There were at least $2,000 in expenses, so the net proceeds
will be closer to $13,000. The proceeds will be split between
the Arc of McLennan County Summer Day Camp Program
and the Baylor Autism Resource Center. For more
information on these organizations, please see the sidebar
article on the left.
408 walkers were registered, while the actual attendance was
approximately 334. However, not everyone there checked in
with registration. Participants who registered early received a
free T-shirt. Additional shirts were sold by order at the event.
