| The Heart of Texas Autism Network works to increase and improve the resources that will empower people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to participate fully in our community. For more information go here. We have no dues or fees for membership. Monthly meetings are held with speakers, discussion and fellowship. Free skilled child care is usually available, with a reservation, for children with autism spectrum disorders and their siblings. HOTAN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible. For an informational "pocket guide" about autism click here. For a HOTAN brochure, click here. The Walk has also helped other local programs that benefit families and individuals with autism, such as the Arc of McLennan County and the Baylor Autism Resource Center. The Arc of McLennann County provides care and support for persons and the families affected by autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities. Each summer the Arc offers an 8-week day camp for children with disabilities, including a unique and specialized curriculum for children with autism. Many parents would not be able to continue working during the summer if it were not for the Arc Summer Day Camp. The Arc camp enables parents to know that quality care is being provided for their children during the summer months. For more information, call 254-756-7591 or visit their website. The Baylor Autism Resource Center helps fill a critical gap in resources for this region, offering social skills groups for all ages, ABA therapies, parent training sessions, books/DVDs available to check out, and more.
