The weather was great.  Best estimates are that approximately 300 people
participated at the event held at the Baylor University Fountain Mall, in Waco,
Texas on Saturday, April 25th, 2009.

Emily Matthews of KWTX was outstanding in her support, and kept the crowd
on its toes as door prizes and raffle prizes were awarded throughout the
morning.

Lee Kelly of 3-Footed Audio managed the sound system and did a great job
keeping everyone walking, dancing, or hopping to the music.

All the kids (and kids-at-heart) had a fantastic time playing in the giant sand
pile, blowing bubbles, creating art, and participating in the numerous games
and activities that were on the Fountain Mall.

McGruff the Crime Dog wandered around the crowd, Rachel Allison of the
Lady Bears Basketball signed autographs, firefighters from Waco Fire
Station #4 gave everyone an up-close look at their fire engine, Just Because
Sno-Cones handed out their wonderful treats, and Dr Pepper and Oak Farms
provided water, juice and milk.

The Baylor Autism Resource Center in the Draper building had their Open
House with refreshments and everyone could look around the area and see
what the center does.

Everyone who went up to the Resource Fair in the Student Union Building got
to meet the Angel Paws therapy dog, Taffy, as well as pick up information
from area agencies and organizations.

We helped raise awareness of autism and funds for the Baylor Autism
Resource Center and the Arc of McLennan County Summer Day Camp
program.

We are still working on getting a complete total. Some donations are still
coming in, but it looks like total funds raised will be between $5,000 and
$6,000. Those proceeds will be distributed to the Baylor Autism Resource
Center and the Arc of McLennan County’ Summer Day Camp program.  When
we have an accurate assessment we will post it on this website.

Each summer the Arc

disabilities, including
a unique and
specialized curriculum
for children with
autism.

Many parents would
not be able to
continue working
during the summer if it
were not for the Arc
Summer Day Camp.

The Arc camp enables
parents to know that
quality care is being
provided for their
children during the
summer months. For

The Baylor Autism
Resource Center

The center is utilized
by parents, caregivers,
educators, trainers,

coordination of
available services and
a team approach is
available to the
community.

BARC also offers a
Summer Day Camp
begining June 7th. For
a free brochure PDF

Other current projects
include facilitating
"Social Circle" groups
to build interpersonal
and social skills for
youth with ASD,
developing a Central
Texas Resource
Services Handbook
and Website, and
establishing a lending
library with books,
sensory integration
materials and motor
lab equipment for

With continued
support from the
community, the center
will expand services

projects related to
therapy and research
in the field.
